Cemetery / Memorials Information: Cecilia Makiwane, the daughter of Elijah Makiwane, became in 1908 the first registered black nurse in what was to become South Africa. A statue of Cecilia Makiwane was erected by the nurses of South Africa at the Victoria Hospital in Lovedale (also called the MacVicar Hospital) in 1977.
