8. Italian Military Cemetery Zonderwater

Cemetery information:- Zonderwater outside Cullinan, 43kms from Pretoria, served as detention camp for Italian Prisoners of War during the Second World War. From April 1941 to January 1947 more than 100,000 Italian soldiers were captured by the British on the North and East Africa fronts and many were housed in this camp, now inside the grounds of the Zonderwater Prison. Permission was not granted to photograph the graves themselves but only the commemoration plaques.
