MACLACHLAN Donald -1900
He died February 1st, 1900, from wounds received January 21st, 1900, in action at Venter's Spruit. He was the son of George Maclachlan of Maclachlan, Argyllshire, was born 1866, and entered the 1st Dragoon Guards from the 2nd Brigade, Scottish Division, Royal Artillery (Militia), in November 1887. He was transferred to the 21st Hussars the following month, being promoted Lieutenant April 1890, and Captain the 5th Dragoon Guards November 1898, from which he exchanged into the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in February 1899. He went to South Africa, October 1899, and was present at the battle of Colenso. Captain Maclachlan was buried at Spearman's Camp. His grave was marked by a marble tombstone erected by his comrades of the 1st Battalion. (source: angloboerwar.com)
