Die bou van die damwal het aan talle armblankes werk verskaf teen 35c 'n dag. Die meeste het in tente en hutte in twee kampe gewoon. Een het hier gestaan. 'n Hout-en-sinkgeboutjie was die skool, hospitaal, saal en kerk. Die begraafplaas met talle kindergrafte en eenvoudige grafstene van lei of metaalplate getuig van haglike omstandighede.
