Cemetery information:- This was the first cemetery at Nchanga Mine in Chingola. During the late 1950s, the overburden dump from the adjacent Open Pit was encroaching on the area, and the Cemetery was closed on 1 December 1958 (ref Gazette Notice 2311/58). As far as was possible, contact was made with relatives of the deceased persons; graves were either relocated to the new Chingola Cemetery, or left as is, in accordance with relatives` wishes. The Cemetery plan is referenced Nchanga Mine Survey no S4-108, also shown on the surface plan S2 494 dated 29.9.1964. Album incomplete. eGGSA captions done by: Alta Griffiths.
